Electroencephalography (EEG) and The Virtual Brain

The course addresses a cutting-edge topic in neuroscience: the European platform The Virtual Brain to produce digital brain twins of patients with brain diseases based on quantitative electroencephalography (EEG) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data. These digital brain twins serve as "digital" indicators of altered brain function in those patients. The course introduces the concepts of what electroencephalography is, computational approaches to EEG data, and what The Virtual Brain is and its purpose, alongside some basic aspects of its application based on EEG and MRI data in research and clinical practices for brain diseases.

Educational objectives:

  • Understand the fundamentals of electroencephalography (EEG)
  • Analyze EEG data with computational approaches
  • Familiarize yourself with The Virtual Brain platform
  • Understand the concept of a "digital brain twin"
  • Evaluate clinical and research applications in brain diseases
